Last verified: August 18, 2026 — Game version: Stonewards Early Access Hotfix 0.1.5. Facts come from official Steam sources and verified player reports.

Stonewards is a first-person co-op roguelite defense game. The control scheme follows standard PC first-person conventions. The exact default keybindings listed below are based on common genre defaults; if Banana Tiger Studio publishes an official control list we will update this page.

Default Keyboard & Mouse Controls

ActionDefault input
MoveW / A / S / D
LookMouse
JumpSpace
Attack / Mine (primary)Left Mouse Button
Aim / Block / SecondaryRight Mouse Button
InteractE
Reload / Use itemR
Sprint / DashShift
Open forge / shop menuF or Tab
Inventory / character menuI or Tab
Push-to-talk (if enabled)V
Emote / social wheelT

These bindings are typical for the genre. Open the in-game Settings > Controls menu to confirm your current layout and remap keys.

How to Remap Keys

  1. From the main menu, select Settings.
  2. Go to the Controls or Keyboard tab.
  3. Click the action you want to change.
  4. Press the new key you want to assign.
  5. Save the profile.

Some actions, such as menu navigation and chat, may not be remappable depending on the build.

Controller Support

Official Steam tags list full controller support and controller remapping. If you are using a controller, the same actions map to face buttons, triggers, and the right stick for camera movement. Check the in-game controller layout to confirm which button opens the forge and interacts with NPCs.

  • Bind Interact to a key you can reach quickly while moving; you will use it often at the forge and for reviving teammates.
  • If you play Miner often, put melee attack on a mouse button you can spam comfortably.
  • Lower mouse sensitivity for charged ranged attacks (Archer/Mage) so you can aim more precisely.

From Community Gameplay

Live footage confirms several actions that the official control list does not spell out:

  • Heavy attacks are charged. You need to “really charge it back for a while to do that heavy swing,” so do not expect the same feel as a normal click (community gameplay, 08:06).
  • Normal pickaxe swings do not use stamina. Only charged attacks drain it, so you can mine continuously and keep stamina for combat (community gameplay, 12:02).
  • Headshots and crits are separate. Players call out “we can head shot… we can head shot and crit,” and headshots can stagger or drop enemies faster (community gameplay, 03:28).
  • Plunging attacks exist. You can drop onto an enemy from above (“plunging attack. I’m stuck on his head”), which is a niche but useful tool when mining from a ledge (community gameplay, 03:28).
  • Items can be dropped and compared on the ground. One player dropped two axes “see if either of them are good” and compared their damage numbers before keeping the better one (community gameplay, 01:50).
  • Stamina bar shown alongside health. Players constantly reference stamina when picking upgrades, so keep an eye on both bars during fights (community gameplay, 03:17).
